"These pants were given to me by my mother… I liked the colour and comfort of them. The colour reminds me of space, and the comfort means that they never restrict me from sitting or doing. I used to just use [comfortable clothing like these] round the home, because I was too aware in public spaces of, I guess, of trends, of what was in fashion. But now I use them when I feel like being quite comfortable, I guess.

Fashion used to not be a pleasure. I went to this college which had a uniform. And the Mufti days (non-uniform dress) I’d feel I had to buy a new garment, so that I felt I was up-to-date. I remember thinking as I walked down the hallway of being very aware of how I was received but in reality everyone has their own processes going on, they are not looking at you… Now I have a much greater pleasure in fashion that… I guess has come from experience and open discussion with people who I feel just don’t take you at all for what you wear…. Now I get a pleasure out of wearing it because it is comfortable."
